UT TYLER
Design becomes culture when it leaves the page.

High-End
Experience
At UT Tyler, we didn’t just print graphics...we built environments where athletes walk taller, fans cheer louder, and a university’s ambition becomes visible
The Strategic Challenge
When a university rebrands its athletics program, the impact goes far beyond new logos—it becomes a transformation of culture, pride, and place.
The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) turned to our print agency as their trusted vendor to take their new athletic brand system from digital guidelines into physical reality. The challenge wasn’t just reproducing graphics—it was managing a complete brand rollout across campus environments, from court floors to locker rooms, under strict NCAA timelines and university oversight.
This project required translating design intent into durable, scalable, and context-specific applications—ensuring the brand wasn’t just seen, but experienced.
The Discovery: Beyond the Surface
Understanding the Real Business
This wasn’t about printing banners—it was about institutional pride. UT Tyler’s athletic identity needed to live seamlessly across spaces where recruits, athletes, and fans encounter it daily.
Through direct collaboration with UT Tyler’s in-house designers and brand managers, I discovered that:
- Every touchpoint, from a locker-room wall to an acrylic hanging sign, communicates the university’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
- Scaling a brand across dozens of unique environments would require creative direction, production knowledge, and installation strategy far beyond standard print jobs.
- My role wasn’t only as a designer—it was as a brand steward and production manager, responsible for maintaining fidelity to the identity while solving physical-world challenges.
The Brand Strategy: From Digital Files to Physical Impact
Positioning at the Intersection of Design and Production
The work demanded managing two worlds simultaneously:
- Creative Direction — ensuring that UT Tyler’s new brand assets were honored, properly adapted, and strategically scaled.
- Production Excellence — making art fit the physical world: adjusting for window mullions, wall seams, corners, lighting, and line of sight.
The guiding phrase became: “Identity, Engineered.” Every output was designed not just to look right on screen, but to perform under real-world conditions.
The Execution: From Concept to Campus
Creative Direction & Brand Management
- Worked directly with UT Tyler’s design team to receive, refine, and adapt brand assets.
- Directed a team of 10+ creatives and technicians: graphic designers, wide-format press operators, screen printers, finishing specialists, and certified installers.
- Ensured all artwork passed through pre-flight and proofing processes for color accuracy, resolution, and substrate compatibility.
Environmental Applications
Deliverables spanned the full spectrum of athletic environments:
- Basketball Court Graphics — precision-scaled decals designed to withstand play and high foot traffic.
- Locker Room Murals — full vinyl wall wraps for soccer, basketball, and other athletics, creating immersive motivational spaces.
- Acrylic Hanging Signs — branded directional signage engineered for durability and clean aesthetics.
- Window & Entryway Graphics — custom-cut decals adapted to frame breaks, corners, and sightlines to ensure seamless presentation.
- Arena & Gym Installations — large-format banners, wall decals, and wayfinding elements scaled to create a unified fan and athlete experience.
Quality Control & Problem Solving
Real-world scaling revealed challenges digital mockups never show. I led the problem-solving process on:
- Aligning graphics across multi-panel walls and segmented windows.
- Adjusting type and logos for readability at multiple distances.
- Managing substrate adhesion on high-traffic surfaces.
- Coordinating installation schedules to align with athletic event deadlines.
The Results: Tangible Transformation
Immediate Business & Brand Impact
- Delivered a multi-facility brand rollout on time and within budget, hitting critical NCAA season deadlines.
- Elevated the athletic environment to match the ambitions of the university’s rebrand.
- Strengthened the perception of UT Tyler Athletics among recruits, athletes, alumni, and fans.
Cultural Resonance
- Athletes entered locker rooms and gyms that reflected a championship mindset.
- Fans and recruits experienced the brand as an immersive environment, not just a logo.
- The university positioned itself as a competitive athletic force through visual authority.
The Learning: What Environmental Brand Management Demands
- Design is only half the battle — scaling art to real-world environments requires engineering.
- Installation is strategy — how and where graphics are applied is as important as what’s designed.
- Cross-team leadership is non-negotiable — designers, operators, and installers must be aligned under one creative vision.
- Deadlines define success — athletic programs can’t reschedule tip-off; quality must meet speed.
